Mr. Scher has been with the firm since 2008 and has expertise in all aspects of IP law. His practice is centered around strategic portfolio development, due diligence, and freedom-to-operate investigations for a myriad of technologies across a wide cross-section of industries. Utilizing cost-efficient and aggressive IP strategies and tactics, he helps clients foster robust national and international portfolios in the mechanical and electromechanical arts, aerospace, agtech, and robotics sectors. Guided by an in-depth awareness of client business objectives and the philosophy that quality, creativity, and collaboration foster exceptional results, Mr. Scher prides himself on working tirelessly to ensure competitive advantage for business ranging from multinational corporations, small and medium enterprises, to startups.
Mr. Scher always had a penchant for engineering and writing. Having earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in German cultural studies with a minor in international relations, he was able to meaningfully apply his education to develop significant experience in civil and structural engineering consulting endeavors. Seeking to apply his engineering background in a legal capacity, Mr. Scher attended law school while working for various intellectual property law firms and a multinational pharmaceutical corporation. His vast array of experiences helped shape his career as a patent attorney and his ability to handle complex legal and technical matters that position clients for optimized growth and sustainability.

Mr. Scher enjoys the fast pace of IP practice because it keeps him engaged in the changing landscape of technological innovation. He combines his expertise in mechanical engineering and the medical arts to design and implement calculated strategies that maximize the value of clients’ patent and trademark portfolios. Mr. Scher fully understands the value of intellectual property and the vital role it plays in maintaining a commercial advantage. Mr. Scher conducts due diligence, performs freedom-to-operate investigations, and prepares patent invalidity and noninfringement opinions. In addition, he performs trademark clearance searches and analyses, providing opinions concerning registration and use of trademarks.
